Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has booked a drug peddler under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS) after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the drug peddler identified as Manzoor Ahmad Reshi S/o Ab Rasheed Reshi R/o Wachi Reshi Mohalla Shopian has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kothbalwal Jammu. Police in its statement further said that the said drug peddler was a habitual offender, involved in Case FIR No. 08/2023 of Police Station Bijbehara and 36/2023 of Police Station Zainapora and despite having been bound down under preventive measures repeatedly, Manzoor Reshi persisted with his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, posing a grave threat to the society, especially the youth.
Police in its statement further said that the said accused has been actively engaged in illegal drug trafficking and creating public nuisances, adding therein that he is a key figure in the narcotics trade, procuring drugs from various sources and selling them at higher prices, primarily targeting the youth of Zainapora.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police said that this decisive action by it demonstrates its unwavering commitment to combating the drug menace and protecting society.
