Srinagar: In a significant step towards enhancing eco-tourism and uplifting the lives of residents in the interior water bodies of Srinagar, Tanvir Sadiq, MLA Zadibal, met with Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi to discuss the transformation of the interior water bodies of Srinagar into eco-friendly tourist villages.
During the meeting meeting, Sadiq presented a Detailed Project Report (DPR) amounting to 180 crores, focusing on the development of Mir Behri Dal, Khushalsar, Gilsar, and Ancharsar. The proposal outlines sustainable initiatives designed to upgrade infrastructure, enhance basic amenities, and foster community-based tourism. Sadiq emphasized that this project aims to bridge the gap between the natural splendor of these areas and the challenging living conditions of the approximately 30,000-35,000 residents who call these water bodies home.
Expressing gratitude for the Union Minister’s positive and encouraging response, Sadiq said, “I am deeply thankful to the Hon’ble Union Minister for assuring that this project will be taken up on priority. He has committed to engaging with the state government and the State Tourism Ministry to provide all necessary technical and financial support. His dedication to such initiatives fills me with hope that these areas will soon witness transformative development. I strongly believe this project will not only uplift local communities but also enhance Jammu and Kashmir’s global reputation as a sustainable tourism destination.”
The project aims to preserve the unique ecological and cultural heritage of these iconic water bodies while ensuring that tourism benefits are directed toward the local communities.
