Srinagar: In a startling revelation, former Srinagar MP and current Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra has claimed that Bharatiya Janata Party never trusted Mehbooba Mufti and attempted to break the PDP when Mufti Muhammad Sayed was on death bed.
Karra said that while the BJP trusted Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, the party harbored reservations about Mehbooba Mufti.
“The BJP was never happy with Mehbooba Mufti and didn’t trust her. They trusted Mufti Sahib but not Mehboobaji. When they realized that Mufti Sahib’s time was limited, they began plotting to break the PDP,” Karra disclosed.
Karra further revealed that he himself was approached by the BJP with an attempt to break the party but said he refused outright.
“I was asked to be part of a plot to dismantle the PDP, but I refused point-blank. I don’t want to create unnecessary controversy, but I believe in being honest so that future generations understand who did what,” he said.
The remarks highlight internal tensions during the BJP-PDP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, which governed the region from 2015 until its collapse in 2018. Mehbooba Mufti, who succeeded her father Mufti Muhammad Sayeed as Chief Minister after his death in 2016, had often faced criticism for strained relations with the BJP.
Karra’s comments shed light on the political maneuvering that took place behind the scenes during this period.
