Srinagar, Dec 11: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has already sought extra power supply from the centre and is working at higher level to address the demand and minimize the unscheduled power cuts in Kashmir valley in winters. This was stated by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri here on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of World Mountain Day here in Srinagar, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir VK Bidhuri said as harsh winter has approached the administration is fully geared up to deal with the situation.
He said we are close to harshest winter period ‘chila-e-kalan’, and currently two places of Kashmir valley has received snowfall which include Razdan Pass and Zojila.
About preparations, he said the administration has kept stock of all essentials for an appropriate period to avoid inconvenience to the people. “If we talk about diesel, petrol or LPG, we have kept the stock available for almost 17-18 days,” he said and added, “The situation is being monitored on daily basis”.
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said that electricity remains a major issue in winters and administration is doing its best to deal with the situation as per the demand. “We have 133 power stations of 33KVA, which are all functional. I will tell you that out of 1273 KV lines, only 6 have breakdown issues. Further in view of intense cold, 50 transformers are facing damages on daily basis, and administration is doing its best to address these faults energetically,” he said.
When asked about unscheduled power cuts, the Div Com Kashmir replied that we have already put forth extra demand of power supply for winters, and administration is working at higher level in this regard to minimize unscheduled power cuts. He said people in winters use crude gadgets which often lead fire mishaps, so we need people’s cooperation in this regard to minimize losses.
