Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday said that it has booked ten notorious drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Srinagar.
Police said these drug peddlers were detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal, Jammu, and District Jails of Bhaderwah, Udhampur, and Kathua of the Union Territory.
The accused drug peddlers have been identified as Rizwan Bashir Dhobi a resident of Sakidafar Safakadal (at present Grid Colony Srinagar), Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat of Karnabal Takanwari Pora, Srinagar, Owais Hussain Mir of Tangbagh, Nawpora, Srinagar, Nadeem Hussain Bhat, and Sheikh Jibran Nisar both of Batawara, Raqib Lateef Bhat aka Amir a resident of Bhat Mohalla, Aloochibagh, Abdul Ahad Bhat of Banpora, Batamaloo, Moin Khan alias Moin resident of Tengpora Bypass, Sajad Ahmad Beigh alias Boya of Madeena Colony, Allochibagh Sector B and Arshid Ahmad Mir of Baghi Jogi Lanker, Rainawari.
The accused have been booked under the PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining the formal detention orders from the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir based on dossiers prepared by Srinagar police against them.
“Police has also set into motion the process to attach their properties under the provisions of PIT-NDPS Act”, they said.
“Pertinent to mention here that these drug peddlers have been involved in the peddling of narcotics among the youth of Srinagar on an alarming scale”, police said, adding “Besides, they were also involved in several NDPS Act cases of various police stations of Srinagar”.
“Despite several NDPS Act cases registered against them, they did not mend their ways after getting bailed out from courts and were brazenly promoting drugs among the youth of the valley, especially in Srinagar, through their illegal narcotics network”, Police said.
“J&K Police affirms its steadfast commitment to eliminating drug peddling in the region with the full might of the law. We also caution those engaged in this unlawful activity that the long arm of law would catch them sooner than anticipated and every offender will face justice”, police said.
