Srinagar: Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (J&K PDF ) Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has demanded that all the power projects under NHPC should be returned back to jammu and Kashmir immediately so that power generated in these power projects could be utilised for the local use and to overcome the prevailing power crisis. He said it was most unfortunate that despite having vast hydo power potential, the people of jammu and kashmir have been made to beg for a single unit of electricity for their own consumption.
In a statement issued on Saturday Hakeem said it was most unfortunate that despite having huge hydro power potential , the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been made to suffer for want of a single unit of electricity . He said NHPC is exporting electricity from our power projects to other states on cheap rates whereas local consumers were craving for electricity even during the harsh winters. He has demanded that all the power houses under the possession of NHPC should be returned back to Jammu and Kashmir immediately so that power generated in these power houses could be used to meet the local requirements. Hakeem said Indus Water Treaty (IWT) was a stumbling block in JK’s development , progress and recurring losses incurred due to this treaty should be compensated fully. He said people of Jammu and Kashmir were the real owners of thier natural resources and have every right to utilise thier own resources by themselves . PDF chairman has said instead of playing blame game, political parties should assert with a joint face on the issue. He said every possible machination to usurp the rights of local people on land and natural resources needs to be thwarted unitedly with full might. ” All the political parties , irrespective of their affiliations and ideologies , should join hands, in the common interests of Jammu and Kashmir , to press for return of power projects back from the NHPC , Hakeem said adding that outsiders should not be allowed grab our land , resources and employment on any pretext.
