Srinagar: The “Sunday market” in Srinagar was abuzz with the shoppers.

Last Sunday on November 3, at least 12 civilians were injured, one of them critically, in a grenade attack in the crowded “Sunday market” near Tourist Reception (TRC) in Srinagar.

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that the grenade attack case has been solved and three accused associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were arrested in the case.

The road stretch from TRC, Residency Road, Lal Chowk, Amirakadal, and Hari Singh High Street was filled with hundreds of vendors who had put up their stalls with a variety of articles of daily use.

A large number of people including men, women, and children were seen making purchases in the “Sunday Market” of their choice Sunday.

However, the authorities did not allow vendors to put up their stalls from the TRC to the Football Stadium gate, the spot where militants carried out the grenade attack, as a precautionary measure.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma visited the Sunday Market and met with the vendors and those who were not allowed to put up their stalls near the TRC.

“I Will take up the matter of the vendors with the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police and will hope that these vendors will be allowed again to put up their stalls after ascertaining the security aspects”, Sharma told UNI.

Meanwhile, a vendor said that there was less rush compared to last Sunday and that has lowered the business. Many vendors were not allowed to put up their stalls near TRC, he added.

Many shoppers were happy after purchasing their choice of article, especially winter wear from the market.
