Srinagar: The revered annual ritual of Poshak Bandi, the ceremonial changing of the cloth over the grave of Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani (RA), was held at Charar-i-Sharief on Monday. This event marked the beginning of the annual Urs celebrations for Kashmir’s venerated Sufi saint, also known as Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA) or Alamdar-e-Kashmir.
The Poshak Bandi ritual holds deep spiritual significance, symbolizing reverence and renewal of the connection between devotees and the saint. During this ceremony, the caretakers carefully drape a new, ornate cloth over the grave, a practice that represents respect, devotion, and the continuity of Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani’s legacy. The new cloth, often embellished with intricate designs and calligraphy, is selected each year with care, reflecting the love and veneration of the followers.
Devotees gathered in large numbers to witness and participate in this sacred ritual, seeking blessings and paying homage to the teachings of the saint. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual fervor as special prayers were recited, with chants and hymns adding a profound sense of peace and devotion.
The Urs day on Wednesday will feature Khatamat-ul-Maazamat, with special prayers offered at the shrine throughout the day. This annual observance continues to be a significant spiritual occasion for Kashmir, drawing thousands of devotees in reverence for Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani (RA), whose teachings and life continue to inspire many.
