CUK commemorates National Space Day

Ganderbal : The Department of Physics in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) Friday celebrated the National Space Day-2024 and organised a series of lectures at varsity’s Tulmulla campus.
In his keynote address, Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Prof. Muhammad Yusuf spoke about the importance of Space research and said, “When we touched the moon, we touched life.” He mentioned that the School of Physical and Chemical sciences is contributing to different areas of space Physics through its teaching and research in Physics, Chemistry and Biological sciences. He said “with development of space research our focus is to use Science for the benefit of life and the mutual benefit of living beings.”
In his talk on “National Space Day Celebration: Short history of space research in India”, Head Deptt of Physics, Prof. Debanjan Bose threw light on the beginning of space research in India and its importance for national and social growth. “The day plays a crucial role in inspiring students and young scientists to pursue careers in space science and technology. Educational institutions across the country hold events, lectures, and activities to spark interest in space among the youth,” he said. He added that India has made significant strides in space exploration, achieving several notable milestones.
Invited speaker for the programme, Prof. Biswajit Paul, from Raman Research Institute, spoke about the Binary X-ray pulsars in his talk titled “Dance of Fireflies in the Sky: Binary X-ray Pulsars”. Prof. Biswajit Paul has been involved in space research and has achieved tremendous advancement in understanding and detecting the X-ray from space.
In his lecture, DST Inspire faculty, Dr. Zahir Ahmad Shah talked about the AstroSat. He spoke about the advancement of the AstroSat as it is capable of multi-wavelength satellite imaging with very high time resolution.
Asst Profs Dr. Raja Nisar and Dr. Khaleed Sultan proposed the vote of thanks.
Thereafter, two events, crossword puzzle and treasure hunt, based on the theme of Space Science, were organised for the students.
