Jammu : Ahead of Independence Day, top brass of Army and Border security Force (BSF) reviewed security preparedness along Line of Control and International Border in Jammu on Friday.
The Army Commander Northern Command Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar accompanied by senior military officers visited Rajouri sector along Line of Control, while Y B Khurania, Special Director General (Western Command) Chandigarh reviewed security scenario of the Jammu International Border
The visit of top officers came a day after BSF killed a Pakistani intruder along International Border in samba sector and Army discovered a militant hideout by recovering huge quantities of arms and ammunition.
“Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Army Commander Northern Command accompanied by GOC White Knight Corps visited Ace of Spades Division along the Line of Control in Rajouri Sector to review the Operational situation. The Army Commander commended the operational readiness of the formation and exhorted all ranks to maintain the high state of professionalism,” said a defence spokesperson.
Y B Khurania, IPS, Special Director General (Western Command) Chandigarh, arrived at the BSF Jammu Frontier for a two-day visit to review the security scenario of the Jammu International Border. He was received by IG DK Boora and other senior officers of the Jammu Frontier. IG BSF gave a detailed presentation to the SDG BSF, covering all the critical aspects of border security and domination along the IB of Jammu. The SDG chaired a security review meeting attended by IG BSF Jammu, IG BSF Kashmir and senior officers of Jammu Frontier, focusing especially on the security situation in the Jammu region. During the visit, he interacted with the Jawans and praised them for performing their duties with dedication and professionalism.
Earlier, security forces convened multi- agency meetings to finalized the arrangements for further fortification of security apparatus in Jammu region, which recently saw raise in militancy related incidents Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, convened a high-level meeting with officials from CAPF, Intelligence agencies, Police, Security wing, and Civil administration. The meeting focused on reviewing and fortifying the security arrangements in Jammu district.
“The ADGP focused on fortifying security in Jammu district, the meeting saw inputs from CAPF, Intelligence agencies, Police, Security wing, & Civil administration,” police in a social media post informed.
Meanwhile, the Government in parliament said that 14 security personnel and 14 civilians were killed up to 21 July this year in J&K while in 2023, 30 security forces and 14 civilians were killed in militancy related incidents.
As per the data, 146 people (91 security personnel and 55 civilians) were killed in 228 militancy related incidents and 189 encounters or counter-militancy operations in the erstwhile state in 2018. “There were 1328 organized stone pelting incidents and 52 organized Hartals in 2018 but there were no such incidents in 2023 and 2024
