Farrukhabad (UP): Three women were killed and 25 others injured when a pickup van overturned in the Jahanganj area of Farrukhabad district in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police sources said here.
Police identified the deceased as Ramkali (50) Rama Devi (70) and Sushuila Kumari (45).
Police sources said the injured were taken to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where doctors declared Ramkali (50) dead. “Two more injured Rama Devi (70) and Sushuila Kumari (45) succumbed to injuries during treatment. 25 injured are being treated at the hospital,” they said.
Police sources said the mishap occurred when the family members of one Vinod (55), a resident of Saifai in Etawah district who died a few days back were returning after
immersing his ashes at Panchal Ghat on the occasion of Guru Purnima on Sunday.
Police said the van on which they were travelling overturned in a pit near Bahorikpur village while the driver tried to save another vehicle. “28 pilgrims were travelling in the van at the time of the incident,” Police said.
After getting the information District Magistrate Dr BK Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP) Alok Priyadarshi and other officers reached the hospital and directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
