Heat wave unlikely in J&K for next 3 days, temp dips in Kashmir parts

“Srinagar records 32.5 degree Celsius, Rains & thundershowers possible at isolated places till Jul 14”

Heat wave in Srinagar, Qazigund, MeT predicts rise in temp for next one week

Srinagar : There has been a slight dip in the mercury for the last couple of days in the maximum temperature while Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Monday recorded a further rise in the temperature by almost 3 degrees and settled at 32.5 degree Celsius.
However, the weatherman has predicted light rains till July 14 at isolated places of Jammu and Kashmir.
Director Meteorological department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said, there is a possibility of brief spell of rain and thundershower at scattered places of Jammu division and isolated places of Kashmir division till July 10.
He added that from July 11 to July 12, a spell of light to moderate rain and thundershower is expected at scattered to fairly widespread places while a brief spell of rain and thundershower is expected at isolated to scattered places on July 13 and July 14.
However, amidst the possibility of more rains in J&K, the temperature continued to settle around the normal temperatures here with Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir recording 31.6 degree Celsius while in Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, the mercury settled at 27.1 degree Celsius.
In Kupwara, a maximum temperature of 31.8 degree Celsius was recorded today while Kokernag and Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, recorded a maximum temperature of 30.2 degree Celsius and 22.2 degree Celsius today.
In Jammu division, the mercury also settled around the normal temperatures with Jammu, the winter capital of the Union territory recording a maximum temperature of 36.2 degree Celsius.
Banihal recorded 32.0 degree Celsius while Batote, Katra and Bhaderwah recorded a maximum temperature of 28.4 degree Celsius, 32.9 degree Celsius and 33.1 degree Celsius respectively.
Meanwhile, an Independent weather forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng said that the temperatures can stay above normal temperature by 3 to 4 degree Celsius in the next few days.
“The temperatures in Srinagar can go up and settle close to 34 degree Celsius in the next coming days. The heat wave would unlikely be witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir for the next three days,” he said
