Srinagar: Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (J&K PDF)and former Minister , Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has expressed concern over the serious irregularities committed in the conduct of NEET- UG 2024 adding therein that the future of about 24 lakh aspiring medical students have been jeopardised . He urged the government to take concrete and result oriented measures to set the working of National Testing Agency, NTA right .
In a statement issued here on Tuesday Hakeem while expressing concern over the alleged paper leak in NEET, 2024 e ,Hakeem urged for immediate reforms in the mechanism of examination process and functioning of the NTA. He demanded re- test of the NEET 2024 test as it has now been proved beyond any doubt that the papers were leaked days before the conduct of NEET examinations. He said notification of anti-paper leak law alone cannot provide relief to the NEET aspirants of 2024 adding that all those aspirants who want retest, should be given a fresh opportunity for qualifying the prestigious test.
PDF Chairman has maintained that paper leak was a crime committed against students adding that the culprits should be given exemplary punishment. Notably, the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the NEET-UG exams, is facing country wide criticism over alleged irregularities in the exams. An unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720, which added to the concerns. The Government has notified an anti-paper leak Law to combat cheating in various national exams, proposing severe punishments. The Law proposes upto 10 years of imprisonment and fine of Rs 1 crore besides having deterrent provisions to attach and forfeit the property of an institution if they are found involved in an organised paper leak crime.
