Srinagar: Below is the timeline of weeklong key public events held within and outside Jammu and Kashmir:-


On 21 June: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that under the guidance of Prime Minister NarendraModi’s leadership, the Jammu and Kashmir brand has successfully gained global recognition. Hosting the International Yoga Day after the G20 summit has significantly drawn attention to the region, he said.
In a significant step towards preserving and showcasing Jammu and Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Indian Army’s Dagger Heritage Complex at Boniyar in North Kashmir’s Baramulla.The Dagger Heritage Complex, curated by the Dagger Division, stands as a testament to the region’s ancient architecture and cultural ethos.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has commenced preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This process, which includes the updation of electoral rolls, has also begun in Haryana, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra, which are all slated to hold elections this year. On Friday, the ECI announced that July 1, 2024, will be the qualifying date for the updation of electoral rolls.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government has introduced several measures to enhance the safety, comfort, and convenience of pilgrims ahead of this year’s AmarnathYatra. In collaboration with various departments and stakeholders, the Health Department Kashmir is making extensive preparations to provide healthcare and allied services to the yatris.
The Indian Railways has conducted a successful trial run on the Chenab Rail Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge built between Sangaldan in Ramban district and Reasi district of Jammu region. “Successful trial run of MEMU train between Sangaldan–Reasisection of USBRL project, Jammu &Kashmir has been conducted,” Minister for Railways, AshwiniVaishnaw, said in a post on X.
A day after two foreign militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Rafiabad area of Baramulla, Army said both the militants were Pakistani and were associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant outfit. They termed the operation as a major success for forces in the north Kashmir region. Addressing a joint press conference in Rafiabad, that was attended by SSP Sopore, Commander 7 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Brigadier Deepak Dev said that forces achieved major success after killing two foreign militants.
In a significant development, police have arrested an Over und Worker (OGW) believed to be a prime suspect in facilitating and providing logistical support to militants responsible for the attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in the Reasi district of Jammu on June 9. The attack resulted in the death of nine pilgrims and injuries to 33 others.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday directed all security agencies to “work in a mission mode and ensure quick response in a coordinated manner. The Union Home Minister said this while chairing a review meeting on the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. The Home Minister also asked the agencies to “replicate the successes achieved in Kashmir Valley through area domination and zero militancy plan in Jammu division” in the meeting conducted here in the national capital.
