Srinagar: Chairman Peoples Democratic Front ( PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaeen has expressed concern over complaints of the consumers from various parts of Kashmir’s that they were bieng served inflated power bills by the power development department. He said serving inflated power bills to consumers was a great injustice with them.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Hakeem while voicing concern over serving inflated power bills to the consumers especially in non-metered areas ,has asked the government to reconsider its decision about hiking of the electricity tariff to provide some relief to the affected consumers . He said the department has failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to consumers, even in the month of holly Ramadhan , but still they have hiked the power tariff without considering the plight of the people. He said the consumers from both towns and rural areas all over the Kashmir valley are complaining about the inflated electricity bills ,which they were unable to pay due to the prevailing financial constraints confronting them .
The PDF Chairman has urged the concerned authorities to reconsider their decision on hiking the electricity tariff to provide some relief to them. He said 15 percent hike in power tariffs by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has impacted around 7 lakh non-metered power consumers in Kashmir alone ,out of total estimated 11 lakh power consumers .
