Innovations cornerstone of university ecosystem: VC

KU congratulates faculty on 'groundbreaking' invention

Srinagar : Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah, a Kashmir University (KU) faculty, has been granted a patent for his ground breaking technology aimed at reducing night traffic accidents caused by traffic light glare.
The patent, awarded on February 9, 2023, with an effective date of February 22, 2021 (date of filing) under the Indian Patent Act, marks a significant milestone in the realm of traffic safety.
The invention is one of its kinds in the world and is supposed to influence the motor landscape in and out of the country given the fact that more than 52% traffic accidents occur during night.
“The University Innovation Centre would approach the relevant automobile manufacturing industrial sector for assessing the techno-economic feasibility of the said innovation for its uses in a wide variety of automobile units.
DrShabir Ahmad Parah, Sr. Assistant Professor at KU’s Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology led a four-member team consisting of ParsaSarosh, Sabreena Mushtaq, and Sheezan Fayaz in developing this innovative solution.
In her message, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, extended her heartfelt congratulations to Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah and his team for this remarkable achievement.
Prof Khan also acknowledged the contributions of other faculty members, teachers and administrative officers who supported and encouraged innovation at Kashmir University.
“Since, innovations are the cornerstone of a university ecosystem, a number of initiatives has been taken up to promote innovation-related activities intended to yield a positive impact on the employability of skilled youth.
Dean, Research, KU, Professor Mohammad Sultan Bhat, highlighted the importance of this invention and announced that the varsity’s Innovation Centre will collaborate with relevant automobile manufacturing industries to assess the techno-economic feasibility of integrating this innovation into a wide range of automobile products, the statement read further.
Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof Farooq Ahmad Masoodi, KU Registrar, Prof NaseerIqbal besides various other university officers, teachers, scholars and students also congratulated the team for the invention.
“Since the news broke, congratulatory messages have been pouring in from academia and civil society alike praising the innovators for achieving this unparralled feat.
