Kathua : Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, R.R. Swain, paid tribute to fallen heroes at the closing ceremony of the 12th Martyrs’ Memorial Cricket Tournament in Kathua. Acknowledging the sacrifices of over 1600 J&K Police personnel among the 6000 brave hearts from various forces, DGP Swain emphasized their commitment to protecting the country’s sovereignty
During the closing ceremony, DGP Swain, after laying wreaths at the martyrs’ gallery, commended the organizing committee and sponsors for the successful execution of the tournament. He expressed gratitude to the people of Kathua for their unwavering support and active participation in honoring the martyrs.
In his address, DGP Swain highlighted the commitment of J&K Police in safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. He particularly praised the initiative to organize the tournament in Kathua, attributing it to the brother of martyr Manjeet Singh. DGP Swain also lauded the efforts of former DGP KuldeepKhoda in institutionalizing the idea.
Reflecting on the tournament’s success, DGP Swain joyfully noted the participation of 16 teams, including 5 from J&K and 11 from other parts of the country. He emphasized the institutional strength of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Pariwar, assuring continued support for the families of fallen heroes.
Addressing the media on the sidelines, DGP Swain shed light on the comprehensive welfare schemes implemented for the families of J&K Police martyrs. These schemes, funded under the Police Contributory Fund and supplemented by central and J&K Government initiatives, aim to provide holistic support. DGP Swain hinted at future initiatives for the families and wards of martyrs.
Discussing the prevalent drug menace, DGP Swain underscored that a majority of drugs are supplied from across borders, with a direct connection to militancy and its financial sustenance. He pledged an unprecedented escalation in the fight against drugs and promised strict action against narcotics dealers. DGP Swain emphasized the categorization of dealers and assured assistance for victims.
The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu highlighted the commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police in organizing sports events to pay tributes to martyrs. Under the “Sevara” scheme, J&K Police have been actively engaging with the families of martyrs, addressing their issues, and providing support.
SSP Kathua, Shivdeep Singh Jamwal, outlined the tournament’s aims and objectives in his welcome address. The vote of thanks was presented by President Shaheed Welfare Committee, Ravinder Singh Salathia, expressing gratitude to J&K Police for their consistent monetary support.
A total of 16 teams from different states participated in the tournament, with Verma Cricket Club Ludhiana securing the title. The tournament, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police in collaboration with Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua, serves as a poignant tribute to the sacrifices made by the valiant men of the J&K Police, inspiring future generations.
DGP Swain, along with other officers, distributed prizes to the winners, runners-up, and outstanding players. Mementoes were also presented to individuals and business units that provided crucial support for the successful conduct of the tournament.
The closing ceremony was attended by dignitaries including DIG JSK Range Shakti Pathak, DC KathuaRakeshMinhas, AIG Welfare PHQ Dr. Abhishek Mahajan, SSP Kathua Shivdeep Singh Jamwal, Principal PTS Kathua Manjeet Kour, AIG (T&P) PHQ Manoj Kumar Pandith, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu Vinay Kumar, and President & members of Shaheed Welfare Committee. Gazetted and Non-Gazetted officers, along with a vast gathering of cricket enthusiasts, witnessed the final match and attended the closing ceremony.
