Jammu : A Village Defense Committee (VDC) member allegedly shot himself dead with his rifle in the Doda district of Jammu on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Balwant Singh son of Prem Nath resident of Kharangal Gandoh of district Doda.
Police said that investigation has been taken up in this regard though prima facie it seems a case of suicide.
Pertinently, Village Defense Committees or Village Defense Guards is a local militia established by the government to counter militancy in the Chenab Valley region of Jammu and Kashmir.
