Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that while cracking a whip on illegal mining of minerals, it in collaboration with DMO and Irrigation & Flood Control Departments to strike on sand mafia at Chakloo, Baramulla.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Baramulla assisted by SHO Baramulla along with the officers of District Mineral and Irrigation & Flood Control raided several houses in village Chakloo where illegally extracted sand has been dumped by the sand mafias, adding therein that raids will continue in the Chakloo village for actions against accused as per law.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered an FIR under relevant sections of law in Police Station Baramulla and initiated further investigations into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement said that in it’s ongoing drive against illegal mining in the district, 81 cases have been registered against illegal mining of minerals and soil in the district besides which 473 accused have been arrested for being involved in extraction/ transportation of minerals during the current year, adding therein that moreover 472 vehicles used in illegal transport of minerals have also been seized from different areas of the district.
