Srinagar: Though the number of mysterious braid chopping incidents is mounting with each passing day, the chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that her government is putting every effort to nab the culprits.
Talking to reporters, on the sidelines of the function here at ‘Makai Point’, situated on the embankment of Dal Lake, the Chief Minister said, “We have already taken initiatives to trace the braid choppers. In this regard, we have formulated the teams who are looking into the issue.”
She also said that the doctors were also sent to the places where the mysterious braid chopping incidents occurred to come up with the facts. “We are putting every effort to trace the persons behind these incidents and the culprits will be brought to the book,” she added.
Pertinently, dozens of mysterious braid chopping incidents took place in different districts of Kashmir especially South Kashmir’s Kulgam and Anantnag districts.
After these incidents, Police formulated a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to trace the braid choppers while it also announced a cash reward to the person who will provide credible information about culprits.
The state Police doubled up the cash reward yesterday from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
They also established a helpline so that “people could inform and seek assistance with regard to any braid cutting incident.”
The Chief Minister had also directed the Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid to nab the culprits involved in mysterious braid chopping incidents.
Locals on Monday evening foiled braid chopping attempt by some burqa-clad women on a class 11th student in Hajin area of Bandipora.
Reports said that locals foiled a braid chopping incident after some burqa-clad women tried to chop off hair of Shafaq Jan daughter of Ahsan ul ahsan resident of Hajin, a student of class 11th.
A police official while confirming the incident said that some unknown women sprinkled something on the girl and tried to chop off her hair. “However, timely action by locals prevented the attempt. The girl fell unconscious and was shifted to a health centre,” he said.
