Srinagar: Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (J&KPDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen while expressing serious concern over the prevailing power crisis in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday urged for immediate steps to improve the scenario before the onset of winter.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Yaseen said that frequent unscheduled power cuts in the wake of severe power shortage has put the people to lot of inconvenience .He has urged the Government to take immediate measures to purchase additional power quota in the larger interests of the common people adding that all the requisite steps should be taken to improve the prevailing severe power crisis attribute to low power generation from the local hydroelectric power projects due low discharge of waters in rivers . He said, in view of dry weather conditions prevailing for last several months in Jammu and Kashmir,
the authorities should have taken steps in advance to avert the present power crisis.
PDF Chairman called upon the government to take steps in advance to meet the challenges on power front in view of the ensuing winter season. “ People should not suffer due to the power shortage more particularly during the harsh winters ,Hakeem said adding that the prevailing unprecedented power crisis was in no way a positive sign when people were expecting further improvement in power scenario following the assurance of the Government about round the clock power supply at least in metered areas . He said presently the people of Jammu and Kashmir were facing unprecedented hardships due to non-availability of power supply adding that immediate steps water required improving the power scenario. “Jammu and Kashmir, being rich in power generation potential, should not have been facing such a power crisis and should have been self-reliant and power surplus but Alas! PDF leader observed . He said, it was most unfortunate that both the governments at Center and state were not paying due attention to exploit the vast potential of hydroelectric power optimally.
