Micro Observers will keep an eye on LAHDC-K elections: DM Shrikant

Srinagar: The authorities are going to utilize the services of Micro Observers during the upcoming elections for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Kargil (LAHDC-K).

The polls for the LAHDC-K are scheduled to be held on October 4.

District Magistrate (DM) Shrikant Balasaheb Suse said “they are going to utilize the services of micro observers in some constituencies besides there would be two police stations designated for each constituency keeping in view the sensitivity of the area”.

The services of five observers will be utilized who will keep an eye on the hill council elections, he added.

He said flying squads have also been deployed with designated magistrates in every constituency who will look into the procedures.

The DM said “the election and district authorities would ensure fair and transparent elections”.

The model code of conduct (MCC) has come into effect after the notification for the elections was issued on September 7.

Suse appealed to all the people including government employees to abide by the MCC and implement it in full spirit.

“Those who will violate the model code of Conduct would be dealt with by the law of the land accordingly”, he said.

DM Kargil issued the notification for the submission of nomination papers for the elections. The date of scrutiny of nominations will take place on September 18 and the withdrawal of nominations will be till September 20.

The polling for the LHDC will be held from 8 am to 4 pm on October 4, he added.

DM said that counting of votes will take place on October 8 and the process of completing all will be on October 11.

He said the RO’s and ARO’s who served during the last elections will remain the same and have started their work in all the 26 constituencies at their headquarters.

Shrikant said there are 278 polling stations, of which 114 have been declared hyper sensitive, 99 sensitive and 65 are normal.

The security deployment ast every polling station would take place according to the need and all necessary arrangements have been completed.

He said the people will exercise their franchise through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
