Srinagar: Police in Ganderbal on Saturday arrested 2 self-styled journalists for extortion in general area of Gund Ganderbal.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that on 8th September Police Station Gund received a written complaint from Gulzar Ahmed Kasana S/o Abdul Rehman Kasana R/o Surfraw Gund who alleged therein that two unknown persons claiming as journalists arrived at his residence at Surfraw and demanded a bribe of Rs 5000/- from him, as the complainant is constructing a residential house at Surfraw, adding that fake scribes took Rs 500/- cash from him and asked him to pay remaining amount of Rs 4500/- after two days and even threatened to dismantle the under construction house if he (complainant) failed to pay the said amount.
Stating that a Police party led by PSI Jameel Ahmad of Police Station Gund under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Muzaffar Jan arrested both the self-styled journalists identified as Sohail Maqbool S/o Mohd Maqbool Mir R/o Bamiluna Kangan and Kaiser Farooq S/o Farooq Ahmed Mir R/o Cheerwan Kangan, Police in it’s statement further said “there were complaints that some persons on scooty with mobile and camera in hands are blackmailing/extorting public in general area of Gund”, adding therein that “many complainants have approached the Police Station and identified the duo for blackmailing them also”.
Stating that the police registered a case vide FIR No. 53/2023 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Gund and initiated further , Police in it’s statement appealed people not to fall prey to such claims by any person and report immediately to nearest Police establishment so that culprits are nabbed under relevant sections of law.
