3 drug peddlers arrested; huge quantity of contraband substances also recovered: Police

Properties worth 2.1 Cr freezed of drug smugglers during the current year in B’bla

Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam and Awantipora police districts and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession besides which properties of drug smugglers worth crores has been seized during the current year in Baramulla.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Statopm Magam during patrolling near Sehpora Bridge intercepted a suspicious person identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar S/o Ab Rashid Dar R/o Naidpora Bon Makhama while carrying two nylon bags who attempted to evade the police party but was apprehended tactfully . Police in it’s statement further said that during search 22 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered the case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Magam and investigation investigation into the case is underway, Police in it’s statement also said that in Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Pampore at a checkpoint established at Befina near Pump Shed arrested a drug peddler identified as Javaid Ahmad Dar S/o Gh Mohd Dar R/o Befina and during search recovered 2.5 Kgs of Fukki from his possession following which case under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation has been initiated. Police in it’s statement further said that during the course of investigation, involvement of one more drug peddler identified as Noor Mohd Nangroo S/o Mohd Anwar Nangroo R/o Badi Bagh Pulwama has emerged and subsequently, he too was arrested and 4.7 Kgs of Fukki was recovered on his instance.
Stating a joint team comprising of Police Station Awantipora alongwith officials of excise department destroyed bung in approximately 50 Kanals of land, Police in it’s statement also said that in Baramulla during the current year properties of drug smuggler worth Rs 2.1 Crores including three residential houses, three private vehicles were seized besides which cash worth Rs 1.2 crore of drug smugglers in Pattan, Kreeri, Kamalkote Uri, Nambla Uri Baramulla was also seized under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of NDPS Act 1985. “This financial action by Police in Baramulla has caused great damage to the financial aspect of drug business and will help in discouraging others from getting into drug peddling”, said police in it’s statement.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
