Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam, contraband substance also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party led by SHO Police Station Devsar at a specific checkpoint established at Malwan Crossing (near under construction police post) intercepted a person identified as Manzoor Ahmad Allie S/o Abdul Gani Allie R/o Malwan. who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during searches recovered 8.05Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag from his possession, adding therein that the said accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police later accordingly registered the case vide FIR No. 72/2023 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Devsar and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
