Five fresh incidents of hair chopping in South Kashmir

Srinagar: Five fresh incidents of hair chopping in South Kashmir’s Kulgam and Anantnag districts created fear psychosis among the locals, especially girls on Monday.
Two incidents have been reported from Chak Path Dooru and Magray Pora Achabal in Anantnag while at Aminu, Ashmoji and Manzgam Koril in Kulgam, the hair of three girls were chopped off by unknown persons.
The latest victims are Sumaira Jan, daughter of Muhammad Azad Khandey of Ashmoji Kulgam, Khushboo Jan daughter of Muhammad Rayees Beigh of Manzgam Koril in Kulgam, Khusbu Jan daughter of Muhammad Iqbal Lone of Aminu Kulgam, Uzma Jan daughter of Nazir Ahmed Lone of Chekh Peth Dooru and Saneez Hussain daughter of Muhammad Hussain Zargar of Magray Pora Achabal.
As reported already 12 incidents of braid chopping in Kulgam district alone has been reported in a week’s time.
A police hand out said that in view of increasing incidents of braid cutting in the district, a serious note has been taken by district police Kulgam to curb this tendency.
“SP Kulgam has constituted a special investigation team to investigate braid cutting cases on fast track basis and bring culprits to book. People are appealed to come forward to help police in speedy investigation.”
The handout reads that a dedicated phone number 7051510660 shall remain functional at PCR Kulgam 24*7 for informing police about such matters.
“People are advised to immediately inform police about any such incident. At the same time, general public is requested not to pay heed to rumours being floated by anti social elements.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has directed Director General of Police (DGP) to constitute a Special team to identify and bring to justice the persons behind the mysterious hair chopping incidents which came to fore in Kulgam district and other places of the State.
Mehbooba Mufti has asked the DGP to speed up the probe in such cases which have caused panic among young girls and their parents.
