Awantipora: Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Monday received research grant from National Commission for Women for “Examining the impact of PradhanMantriUjjwalaYojana (PMUY) on cooking fuel choice and the health of women in Jammu and Kashmir”.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office IUST here, Dr. IrfanSofi, the Principal Investigator of the project, and his research team will assess the extent to which PradhanMantriUjjwalaYojana (PMUY) scheme has helped in reducing the consumption of solid fuels for cooking, and evaluate the health benefits of the same for women particularly in rural areas of J&K. The findings from this project will be helpful in developing targeted interventions that increase the adoption of clean fuels and improve women’s health outcomes in Jammu and Kashmir.
Prof. Shakil A Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST congratulated the team and emphasized on the importance of conducting research in areas of societal importance. Prof. Mohammad ShafiSofi, Head Department of Economics also complimented Dr. Irfan for the grant and emphasized that such efforts are essential in evolving research based solutions.
