7 drug peddlers arrested, contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has arrested seven drug peddlers in Sopore, Kulgam, Budgam & Baramulla and also recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Sopore, a police party at a checkpoint established at Hib Dangerpora intercepted and apprehended a drug peddler identified as Fayaz Ahmad Wani S/o Muhammad Abdullah Wani R/o Tujjar Shareef Sopore, adding therein that during search, 12 bottles of Codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession, besides which the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in its statement furthersaid that in Kulgam also, a police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Drien Daulatabad near Jammu-Srinagar highway intercepted and apprehended a drug peddler identified as Suhail Ahmad Ganie S/o Bashir Ahmad Ganie R/o Brankher Drien, Daulatabad and during search, 5Kgs of poppy straw like contraband substance from his possession following which the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that similarly in Budgam also, a police party of Police station Magam arrested four drug peddlers identified as Zahid Majeed Bhat S/o Abdul Majeed Bhat, Irfan Ahmad War S/o Abdul Ahad War both residents of Peth-Kanihama, Tariq Ahmad Parray S/o Ghulam Mohammad Parray R/o Warihama and Fayaz Ahmad Dar S/o Abdul Rahman Dar R/o Badran Magam and during searches recovered 40 bottles of codeine phosphate and cash amount of Rs. 13100/= from their possession, Police in it’s statement further said that the said accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in Baramulla district also, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohd Nawaz, assisted by Incharge PP Palhallan arrested a drug smuggler namely Abdul Hameed Mir S/o Ghulam Hassan Mir R/o Seru Gudwani Pattan during checkpoint at TCP Palpora Crossing Pattan and during searches recovered 2.750 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in a bag from his possession following which the said accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that the police later accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but subsequently warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
