Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Ganderbal district and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Ganderbal at a checkpoint established at Saloora arrested a drug peddler identified as Waseem Ahmad Bhat @Kulcha S/o Gh Mohammad Bhat R/o Wanipora Saloora and during search recovered 33 strips of banned drugs (Doltemm-100) from his possession.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action a police party of Police Station Sonamarg at a checkpoint established at Naka Shutkadi, intercepted a vehicle (Alto-800) bearing registration number JK04E-9332 driven by Manzoor Ahmad Reshi S/o Ab Rehman Reshi R/o Haripora Bonzail Kangan, who was carrying poppy straw with himself, adding therein that all poppy straw was recovered from possession of the said accused who was immediately arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that cases has been registered under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and further investigations is underway, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police on this occasion also reassured people to take all possible measures to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
