Srinagar: Eid-ul-Adha was celebrated with great religious fervor on Thursday across Kashmir.
The largest gathering of Eid congregational prayers in Kashmir was held at Hazratbal shrine on the banks of Dal lake, where thousands of people offered prayers.
Former chief ministers, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah offered Eid prayers at the Hazratbal shrine. Chairperson of J&K Waqf Board Darakhshan Andrabi also offered Eid prayers at Hazratbal where she prayed for peace and prosperity.
Witnesses said that no Eid prayers were held at Srinagar’s historic Jamia mosque and Eidgah ground. On Wednesday the managing body of Jamia mosque in Srinagar said that the authorities disallowed Eid congregational prayers at Eidgah Srinagar.
Except Jamia and Eidgah, the prayers were held in all other places across valley and the day
passed off peacefully.
“For the first time I feel people are celebrating,” Andrabi said.
Large Eid congregational prayers were held in all districts of Valley. Police had made elaborate security arrangements to ensure peaceful conduct of the Eid prayers.
In the Eid prayer gatherings in the valley, preachers and scholars emphasized the importance,
virtues and virtues of Eid-ul-Azha and emphasized unity and solidarity among Muslims.
After Eid prayers, people sacrificed animals to mark Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his
son before Allah. Later, sacrificial meat was distributed among the kith and kin besides the needy.
The children, wearing new clothes, were seen collecting ‘eidi’ from elders.
The Eid festivity will continue till Saturday.
