Kulgam : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested three drug smugglers in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headuqarters Srinagar Police said that on the specific inputs regarding presence of contraband substances in the house of Gh Mohammad Tantray S/o Habibullah Tantray R/o Mulgam Kunzer, a police party led by SHO PS Kunzer under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Imtiaz Ahmad alongwith Executive Magistrate concerned raided the specific spot, adding therein that during the search of house, 13Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance was recovered from the accused who tried to flee but was arrested tactfully and later the accused was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in its statement said that in a similar action a police party led by SHO PS Baramulla under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Baramulla Altaf Ahmad during patrolling at Khawajabagh Baramulla intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during search recovered 150 grams of Charas like substance from the possession of the said accused who was later on arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a police party led by Incharge PP Wagoora under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri Khalid Ashraf- at a checkpoint established at Vizer Wagoora intercepted a vehicle (Load Carrier) bearing registration number JK05B-1259 driven by one person identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Kaloo S/o Nazir Ahmad Kaloo R/o Sher Colony Sopore , Police in it’s statement further said that during search 9.5Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was accordingly arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that the police has later accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law in respective police stations and initiated further course of investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and warned that it will act tough against those found indulging in ani-social activities.
