Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kulgam and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, a police party headed by In-charge Police Post Frisal at a checkpoint established at Chenigam, Frisal intercepted a vehicle (auto) bearing registration No. JK18B-2131 driven by Rouf Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Hassan Bhat R/o Chenigam, adding therein that during search, 17 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance was recovered from the said vehicle, besides which the accused was on spot arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody and the vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered the case vide FIR No. 63/2023 under relevant sections of law in Police Station Yaripora and initiated further course of investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and assured them that it will act tough against the criminals as per law.
