CUK celebrates 9th Int’l Yoga Day

Ganderbal : Department of Physical Education, School of Education, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) celebrated the 9th International Yoga Day on the theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (Har Aangan Yoga) at varsity’s Tulmulla Campus here on Wednesday morning.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office CUK here, since its inception in the year 2015, CUK has continuously celebrated the day and the students, faculty members and the administrative staff are pro-actively participating in it.
Highlighting the significance and efficacy of yoga in tackling the challenges of physical and mental health, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, said the yoga boosts physical and mental well-being, brings balance in life and rejuvenates the body as new. He said that the health of the individual determines the health of the nation and asked the participants to do Yoga every day to lead a healthy life. He further said that yoga helps in reducing stress, anxiety, depression, fear and many other health ailments, adding that yoga has been shown to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, explained the role of yoga in controlling the diseases including obesity, hypertension, depression, diabetes, arthritis, lower back problems etc. He said the varsity will continue to organise awareness programmes on Yoga so that people can understand its significance for maintaining good health.
Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, Dean School of Education, Prof. Syed Zahoor Geelani, Finance Officer and Dean DSW, Dr. Mehraj ud Din Shah, Coordinator, Deptt of Physical Education, Dr. Mohammad Muzamil Shah, faculty members, administrative staff and students also performed different Yoga Asanas on the occasion, shown by Yoga Trainer, Dr. Mohammad Muqarram.
Earlier, in the run up to today’s event, the department of Physical Education organised a three-week yoga camp for the students and faculty from 1st of June 2023, during which sessions were held to impart Yoga training to the participants, representing all the departments of the university.
