Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested nine drug peddlers in Baramulla district and also recovered 1.78 kgs of contraband Heroin like substance alongwith cash amounting Rs. 69.20 Lacs from Nambla, Isham & Bandi Uri areas of Baramulla, adding therein that this seizure represents a significant blow to the narcotics trade network operating in the Baramulla area.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that after recieving specific inputs about smuggling of narcotics by Irfan Ahmad Najar S/o Noor Din Najar, Mehmooda Begum W/o Irfan Ahmad Najar & Ghulam Rasool Sheikh, all residents of Nambla Uri a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali assisted by SHO PS Uri Inspr Mohd Shafi, alongwith Magistrate searched the house of Irfan Ahmad Najar, adding therein that during search of the house 490 grams of contraband Heroin like substance and cash amounting Rs. 6,45,200/- was recovered from the possession of Irfan Ahmad and his wife Mehmooda Begum.
Police in it’s above statement also said that on their disclosure, house of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh S/o Noor Din Sheikh R/o Nambla-A was searched and during searches contraband heroin like substance weighing 520 grams and cash amounting to Rs. 5,79,500 rupees was seized on spot in presence of magistrate, adding therein that during sustained questioning and on their disclosure, house of Mohd Subhan Dar S/o Abdul Aziz Dar resident of Hathlanga was also searched and contraband Heroin like substance weighing 420 grams and cash amounting to Rs. 56,95,600 rupees was seized in presence of Magistrate.
Stating that in a total, contraband Heroin like substance weighing 1.430 Kilograms besides cash amounting to ₹69,20,300/- as proceeds of drugs smuggling was recovered, Police in it’s satement further said that in a similar action at Uri while acting on specific inputs about smuggling of narcotics, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri assisted by SHO PS Uri, at a checkpoint established at Isham Crossing Uri arrested two persons who on noticing the checkpoint tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully and were identified as Mohd Hafeez Aabasi S/o Abdul Rashid Aabasi & Zahid Hussain Aabasi S/o Abdul Rashid Aabasi, both residents of Gowaltha, adding therein that during their personal search, two packets of contraband like substance apparently Heroine weighing (65 grams along with packing) and (75grams along with packing) respectively was recovered.
Stating that in another similar action police a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri and assisted by SHO PS Uri while acting on specific inputs about the smuggling of narcotics established a naka at Bandi Rest House and during checking, one vehicle (Dumper) bearing registration number JK05D-8441 was intercepted, Police in it’s statement futher said that the boarded persons along with driver of the vehicle tried to flee from the spot, but the alert police party tactfully apprehended them and were later identified as Mohd Saleem Qureashi S/o Mohd Ashraf Qureashi R/o Nambla (Driver), Mohd Rafiq Awan S/o Ali Hussain Awan R;/o Thajal & Afra Siyab S/o Abdul Majeed Ganie R/o Nambla. Police in it’s statement further said that during the personal search of Afra Siyab, 1 packet of contraband like substance apparently Heroin weighing (80 grams along with packing) and 1 packet of contraband like substance apparently Heroine weighing (60grams along with packing) was recovered from Mohd Rafiq Awan and during the search of vehicle 1 packet of contraband was recovered from driver seat weighing (70grams along with packing).
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that during preliminarily investigation it was learnt that under a well hatched conspiracy, Pakistan based handlers are pushing drugs inside J&K through such smugglers to spread drug addiction amongst youth of J&K, adding therein that this successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of the continuous surveillance and intelligence gathering carried out by the police force in their fight against drug-related crimes. In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and further investigation into the matter is going on.
