Srinagar :Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested nine drug smugglers and also recovered 1.78 kgs of contraband Heroin like substance along with cash amounting to Rs 69.20 Lacs from Nambla, Isham & Bandi area of Uri in Baramulla district, adding therein that this seizure represents a significant blow to the narcotics trade network operating in the Baramulla area.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that in Nambla Uri, a specific information was received by police regarding smuggling of narcotics by Irfan Ahmad Najar S/o Noor Din Najar, Mehmooda Begum W/o Irfan Ahmad Najar and Ghulam Rasool Sheikh, all residents of Nambla Uri, adding therein that while acting on specific inputs, police under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali assisted by SHO PS Uri Inspr Mohd Shafi, alongwith Magistrate conducted the search of the house of Irfan Ahmad Najar and during search of the house, 490 grams of contraband Heroin like substance and cash amounting ₹6,45,200/- was recovered from the possession of Irfan Ahmad and his wife Mehmooda Begum.
Police in it’s statement further said that on their disclosure, the house of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh S/o Noor Din Sheikh R/o Nambla-A was searched and during searches contraband heroin like substance weighing 520 grams and cash amounting to Rs. 5,79,500 rupees was seized on spot in presence of magistrate. Stating that during sustained questioning and on the disclosure of the said accused the house of Mohd Subhan Dar S/o Abdul Aziz Dar R/o Hathlanga was also searched and contraband Heroin like substance weighing 420 grams and cash amounting to Rs. 56,95,600 rupees was seized in presence of Magistrate, Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in total, contraband Heroin like substance weighing 1.430 Kilograms and cash amounting to Rs. 69,20,300/- as proceeds of drugs smuggling was recovered.
Police in it’s statement further more said that in a similar action at Isham Uri, following specific inputs regarding smuggling of narcotics a police party under the supervision of SDPO Uri assisted by SHO PS Uri, at a checkpoint established at Isham Crossing Uri arrested two persons who on noticing the checkpoint tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully and identified as Mohd Hafeez AabasiS/o Abdul Rashid Aabasi and Zahid Hussain AabasiS/o Abdul Rashid Aabasi, both residents of Gowaltha and during their personal search, adding therein that two packets of contraband like substance apparently Heroine weighing (65 grams along with packing) and (75grams along with packing) respectively was recovered.
Police in it’s statement further said that similarly at Bandi Rest House Uri, based on a specific information regarding smuggling of narcotics, police under the supervision of SDPO Uri and assisted by SHO PS Uri established a checkpoint established at Bandi Rest House and during checking, one vehicle (Dumper) bearing registration number JK05D-8441 was intercepted. Stating that boarded persons along with driver of the vehicle tried to flee from the spot, but the alert police party tactfully apprehended the accused identified as Mohd Saleem Qureashi S/o Mohd Ashraf Qureashi R/o Nambla (Driver), Mohd Rafiq Awan S/o Ali Hussain Awan R/o Thajal and AfraSiyab S/o Abdul Majeed Ganie R/o Nambla , Police in it’s statement further said that duringe personal search of Afra Siyab, one packet of contraband like substance apparently Heroin weighing (80 grams along with packing) and one packet of contraband like substance apparently Heroine weighing (60grams along with packing) was recovered from Mohd Rafiq Awan and during the search of vehicle one packet of contraband was recovered from driver seat weighing (70grams along with packing).
Police in it’s statement also said that during preliminary investigation a well hatched conspiracy was found as it came to the fore that Pakistan based handlers are pushing drugs inside J&K through such smugglers to spread drug addiction amongst youth of J&K, adding therein that this successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of the continuous surveillance and intelligence gathering carried out by the police force in their fight against drug-related crimes. Police in it’s statement further said that police has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law at the respective police stations and initiated further investigation into the case..
