2 drug peddlers booked under PIT NDPS Act, 3 more arrested in Bla and Awantipora: Police

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has booked two notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam besides, arresting three drug peddlers/smugglers in Baramulla and Awantipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the drug peddlers namely Khursheed Ahmad Bhat S/o Mohammad Ismail Bhat R/o Sopat Devsar, Kulgam & Abdul Rashid Dar S/o Late Ghulam Nabi Dar R/o Nillow, Kulgam were booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir vide order No’s; DIVCOM-“K”/69/2023 Dated 31-05-2023 & DIVCOM-“K”/70/2023 Dated 31-05-2023 and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.
Police in it’s statement further said that many cases were registered against the above named drug peddlers for their involvement in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs especially to local youth of District Kulgam, adding therein that despite their involvement in many FIR’s, they did not mend their activities and were consistently involved in promoting drug abuse trade.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in a similar action in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district a police party under the supervision of SDPO Pattan, assisted by SHO Police Station Pattan at a checkpoint established at Hanjiwera Pattan intercepted a vehicle (Tavera) bearing registration number JK05C-0784 driven by Aijaz Ahmad Gojri @Aijaz Mughal S/o Noor Din Gojri R/o Pattan and during searches recovered 120 grams of Charas like substance from the possession of the said accused who was immediately arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that a police party under the supervision of SDPO Pattan, assisted by Incharge Police Post Mirgund at a checkpoint established at Mirgund Crossing arrested a drug smuggler identified as Tawseef Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohammad Subhan Ganie R/o Rambirgarh Srinagar and during searches recovered 92 grams of Charas like substance from his possession following which he was later on shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody, Police in it’s statement also said that a police party of Police Post Reshipora Awantipora headed by Incharge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora arrested a drug peddler at Panzgam Hospital Crossing and during searches recovered 2.1Kgs of contraband Poppy Straw like substance from his possession folloing which he was identified as Shahbaz Ahmad Dar S/o Bashir Ahmad Dar R/o Panzgam Awantipora and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Disclosing that cases have accordingly registered under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and investigation has been subsequently initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that it will act strictly against the people found indulging in anti-social activities as per law.
