Srinagar :Police on Friday said that it booked a poppy cultivator in Ganderbal also arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, Police Station Lar under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal registered FIR against one person namely Shams-ud Din Sheikh S/o Mohammad Abdullah R/’o Watlar Ganderbal for cultivating Poppy/Opium plants in his fields and accordingly constituted a team led by by SHO PS Lar alongwith 1st Class Magistrate Lar recovered Green Bulbs of Poppy and seized them on the spot.
Police in its statement further said that a police party of Police Station Lar during naka checking at Goriwan La intercepted one person identified as Fida Hussain Quraishi S/o Late Mohammad Younis R/o Chanthan Lar and during his search recovered Psychotropic substance from his possession. Stating that the said accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, Police in it’s statement further said that it has accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Lar and initiated an investigation into the case.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police warned that it will act strictly against the people indulging in illegal mining activities as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.
