Anekal: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said Manipur violence is the outcome of BJP’s politics of hatred.
“What is happening in Manipur is because of the politics of hatred. If Manipur is burning today it is because of the politics of hate. And we have started Bharat Jodo Yatra against this politics of hate,” he said, addressing an election rally here.
Earlier, riots broke out in Manipur between the Meitei community and Naga/Kuki tribes over the demand of the former for Scheduled Tribe status.
The Meitei community mainly live in Imphal Valley, and Naga and Kuki tribes are denizens of hill districts.
Rahul Gandhi alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are busy campaigning in Karnataka even as Manipur is burning.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also had expressed deep anguish about the situation, and asked the Centre to restore peace.
Congress communication head Jairam Ramesh also had said that the entire state of Manipur is in flames in less than 15 months of BJP forming the government.
He also had alleged that the Manipur chief minister is under siege, and PM Modi and Shah are busy going around polarising Karnataka.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said BJP’s politics of hate, division and its greed for power is responsible for this mess. UNI
