LeT Militant killed in Kurhama Encounter: Police

Srinagar: One LeT militant was on Saturday killed in an ecounter in Karhama area of Kunzer Tangmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Police said that while acting on a specific inputs about the presence of a militant in Karhama Kunzer area of Baramulla district teams of police along with the Army (2nd RR) and CRPF (176 Bn) on Saturday launched a joint cordon and search operation in the area.
Stating that as a joint search party approached towards the suspected spot where the militant was hiding, the militants abruptly fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively triggering an encounter in the area, Police in it’s statement further said that in the ensuing encounter, a local militant linked with LeT militant outfits was killed and later his body was retrieved from the encounter site. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that the slain militant was identified as Abid Wani S/o Mohd Rafiq Wani R;o Yarhol Babapora Kulgam, adding therein that police also recovered incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 1 AK-47 rifle from the site of encounter and all the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. Police in it’s statement also said that three LeT militants have been killed in past 48 hours in Baramulla district in two separate anti-militant operations.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police said that it has accordingly registered the case under relevant sections of law and initiated further investigation into the case. Police also appealed people to cooperate with it till the area at encounter site was completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any.
