New Delhi: The Supreme Court decided to hear on Friday a plea filed by a group of advocates seeking pan-India implementation of rules for the safety and security of school children, a subject brought into sharp focus by the murder of a second standard boy in the millennium city of Gurugram. The lawyers group mentioned the matter today before a bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra. A copy of the petition filed by the group of lawyers, available with the UNI, asserted that many schools in the entire country did not implement certain rules as formulated for the safety and security of school children. Thereby, the Apex Court should intervene and pass appropriate directions to fill the lacunae. The petition sought a direction from the apex court to the respondent for implementation of the existing guidelines or policies framed for the security and safety of the school children. Most of the parents, the plaintiff contended, are under constant fear for their children’s safety and security.
