Srinagar : Police in Handwara on Friday said that it has seized illicit timber in villages Harnipora Shahlal & Bulinar and also arrested an accused person involved in the commission of crime.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs about the illegal timber smuggling in village Harnipora Shahlal, a police party of Police Station Handwara raided the specific spot and seized the illicit timber (45 logs) from the house of one person identified as Mohd Yousuf Ganie S/o Gh Mohd Ganie R/o Harnipora Shahlal who being involved in the commission of crime was also arrested on the spot. Police in it’s statement also said that the accused has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody, adding therein that a police party of Police Station Vilgam also seized illicit timber from village Bulinar Tarathpora.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated an investigation ,
Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement said that the drive against timber smugglers shall continue and reassured the people to make every effort to keep society free of crime. Police on this occasion also resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal & anti-social activities.
