DC Kupwara chairs interactive meeting with newly appointed Lumberdars

Kupwara : The District Administration Kupwara on Saturday organised an interactive cum sensitization meeting of newly appointed Lumberdars of the district at Town Hall Kupwara.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray.
ACR Kupwara, Irfan Bahadur; Tehsildars of Kupwara, Handwara, Machill; besides, all Lumberdars attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the DC congratulated the Lumberdars for their new appointment and emphasized upon their role and responsibility for carrying out their jobs.
The DC said that the government has taken keen interest in reforming the institution of Lumberdars by appointing educated youth in a fair and transparent manner. He stressed upon all Lumberdars to give top most priority to the matters and assignments pertaining to the larger interest of the people.
He directed them to take their role and responsibility in a sensitive manner as they are a crucial part of the Government in implementation of different public welfare policies and schemes. He directed them to ensure timely completion of all assignments coming from District Administration and J&K Government.
Referring to drug addiction, the DC said that 250 drug victims have been already rescued and rehabilitated by the District Administration and asked the Lumberdars in identification of more such victims for their smooth recovery and rehabilitation.
On the occasion, Tehsildars provided a detailed awareness to the participants about their role and responsibility under different legislations including Lumberdari Act 1972 and Lambardari Rules 1980. The awareness given include reporting of death and missing of any person in the village, besides, reporting of untoward incidents like fire, outbreak of epidemic disease, preparation of revenue records, damage to forests.
The coordination of Lumberdars with Revenue, Police, Health and other Government departments were also highlighted.
