Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it seized 4 vehicles and also arrested 3 persons in Kulgam district for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of mineral.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party led by SHO Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Bonigam Crossing arrested three drivers identified as Ikhlaq Ahmad Malla S/o Mohammad Amin Malla R/o Adigam Devsar, Mohd Iqbal Chopan S/o Mohammad Akram Chopan R/o Mandhole and Sajad Ahmad Khanday S/o Mohd Akram Khanday R/o Sangran and seized four vehicles including three tractors and one tipper involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. However Police in it’s statement also said that while taking advantage of the darkness, the driver of one of the tractor, managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to effect his arrest.
Stating that it has accordingly registered a case vide FIR No. 60/2023 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Qazigund and intiated an investigation in the case, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement said that persons found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units.
