Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested 8 gamblers in south Kashmir’s Kulgam District and also seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs about gambling activities in the jurisdiction of PP Mirbazar, a police party led by Incharge PP Mirbazar raided the suspected gambling site at Palpora and apprehended 8 gamblers on the spot. Police in it’s statement further said that the accused have been identified as Mohd Yousuf Malla S/o Ghulam Mohammad Malla R/o Kawaki Bazar Qaimoh, Nasir Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohd Rafiq Ganie and Umar Hammid Wani S/o Abdul Hammid Wani, both residents of Furrah, Mudasir Ahmad Rather S/o Abdul Rashid Rather R/o Waghama Bijbehara, Bilal Ahmad Mir S/o Mohd Ismail Mir and Nisar Ahmad Khanday S/o Mohd Afzal Khanday both residents of Bumthan, Nisar Ahmad Mir S/o Ghulam Hassan Mir R/o Zadoora and Tariq Ahmad Matoo S/o Ghulam Mohammad Matoo R/o Gangipora.
Stating that during searches stake money of Rs 50,000/-, 8 mobile phones and a set of playing cards was seized from the possession of the above named accused who have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement also said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation has been initiated. In the concluding para of the above quoted statement police warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
