Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested 8 drug peddlers across Kashmir division and also recovered huge amount of contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla, a police party led by SHO PS Baramulla under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Baramulla Sajjad Bukhari during naka checking at Ushkara Crossing Baramulla intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK05J-4593 with two persons on board following which 15 grams of Brown Sugar like substance were during recovered from their possession. Police in it’s statement also said that the accused have been identified as MohdAqib Lone son of Abdul Gani resident of Bulgam Baramulla and Mudasir Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Sultan resident of Buchoo Pattan.
Stating that in a similar action the officers led by Incharge Police Post Mirgund under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohd Nawaz during naka checking at Jheel Bridge Singhpora Pattan intercepted a vehicle (Load Carrier) bearing registration number JK01T-8427 with two persons on board, Police in it’s statement further said that during checking 5.3Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance were recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Waheed Ahmad Bhat S/O Gh Mohi Ud Din and Owais Bashir Shikari S/O Bashir Ahmad, both residents of Sher Colony Sopore. Police in it’s statement further said that all the 4 accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and the vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized.
Police while giving details also said that in yet another similar action in Sopore a police party headed by SHO Police Station Sopore under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Raies Ahmad during patrolling at Gousia Abad Chinkipora Sopore intercepted two suspicious persons and during checking, recovered 360 grams of Charas like substance from their possession following which they were identified as Ashiq Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Qadir of Gousia Abad Chinkipora and Ali Mohammad Lone son of Mohammad Yousuf Lone of Jalalabad Sopore and all of the them have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in Handwara also, a police party of Police Station Kralgund during patrolling at Ananwan Chowk intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle bearing registration No. JK05G-4794 . Police in it’s statement also said that during searches the said police party recovered around 11 grams of Brown Sugar like substance, 1 digital Weighing Machine and cash amount of rupees 24000/- from the possession of the said accused identified as Jameel Ahmad Dar S/O Gh Ahmad Dar R/O Seripora Rafiabad and Gh Qadir Wani S/O Mohd Ashraf R/O Mangwalpora who have accordingly been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and the motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Police in it’s statement also said that it has accordingly registered the cases under relevant sections of law in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of the above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
