Srinagar :Police on Saturday said that it has seized huge quantity of illicit timber in village Yahama, area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Qalamabad in district Handwara.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, Srinagar police said that during the intervening night of 17th and 18th February Police in Handwara received inputs about one person namely Amir Aziz Sheikh S/O Ab Aziz R/O Yahama having kept illegally acquired forest timber in the courtyard of his house following which a police party of PS Qalamabad raided the specific location and seized 50 logs of illicit timber from the said house.
Stating that the accused person involved in the commission of crime is at large and efforts are on to nab him, Police in it’s statement further said that a case vide FIR No.09/2023 was registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Qalamabad and investigation has been also initiated.
In the concluding para of the above quoted statement police said the drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold. Police on this occasion also reassured people of its consistent actions against anti-social elements involved in the commission of the crime.
