Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam and Handwara and also recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of PS Khag at a checkpoint established at Poshker Khag Chowk, intercepted a vehicle (TATA Sumo) bearing registration number JK01K-3772 driven by Shabir Ahmad Wani @Shabir-Dalwash S/O Mohmmad Abdullah Wani R/O Dalwash and during searches recovered 60 grams of Charas, one Mobile Phone & cash amount of ₹19,000/- (proceeds of narcotic crime) from his possession following which the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Police in it’s statement also said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that in another similar action, a police party of PP Hardipanzo at a checkpoint established at Qamiru Crossing, arrested a drug peddler identified as Ghulam Ahmad Lone S/O Mohammad Yousuf Lone R/O Waragam Beerwah, Police in it’s above referred statement further said that during searches 2.1Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from the possession of the said accused. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that in a similar action in Handwara a police party of PS Vilgam at a checkpoint established at Taratpora, arrested a drug peddler identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Mir @Inam son of MohdMaqbool Mir resident of Tarthpora and during searches recovered 30 grams of Charas recovered from his possession. Police in it’s statement also said that cases under relevant sections of law were also regisrtered at respective police stations & investigations were also initiated.
In the concluding para of the above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and reiterated that peeople found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
