Srinagar: The 135-day-long Congress leader Rahul Gandhi led Bharat Jodo Yatra culminated with the hoisting of the tricolor at the historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Sunday.
Earlier today, the last leg of the yatra resumed from Srinagar’s Pantha chowk area amid tight security arrangements. The Bharat Jodo yatra commenced from Kanyakumari on September 7, 2022.
The leaders from the regional parties also joined the yatra today.
The unfurling of the national flag was accompanied with the playing of the national anthem at historic Lal Chowk amid unprecedented security arrangements.
General Secretary of the Congress party Prinyanka Gandhi, Jammu and Kashmir affairs in-charge Rajni Patel, Jai Ram Ramesh, AICC J&K President Vikar Rasool and other senior leaders were also present during the ceremony.
The day would end with a dinner being hosted by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at Hotel Taj Vivanta situated on a hill lock in Srinagar overlooking the Srinagar city and Dal Lake.
The traffic in Srinagar was halted on the routes from where the ‘Bharat Joda Yatra’ proceeded amid an advisory issued by the traffic police on Saturday directing people to avoid certain routes while travelling in Srinagar on Sunday.
Tourists as well as the general public were also advised to use alternative routes to reach the Srinagar International Airport to avoid any inconvenience.
Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit the AICC office on Moulana Azad road to meet the party workers here and will address a public rally on Monday at the SK Stadium in Srinagar.
