Srinagar: Guns fell silent on the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah sector in the frontier district of Kupwara where Indian troops retaliated after Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing, targeting forward posts during the intervening night of September 2 and 3. There was no firing since yesterday and guns are silent on the LoC, official sources told UNI. However, people are still in panic, fearing more shelling from Pakistani troops, who are violating ceasefire to allow trained militants to enter into Kashmir valley before the infiltrators are closed due to snowfall.
Pakistani troops resorted to indiscriminate firing when the people were busy celebrating Eid-ul-Azha yesterday in Karnah sector in the north Kashmir district of Kupwara . Police said the areas affected by the Pak shelling included Amrodin, Chatkadi and Sadipora. However, there was so far no report of any loss of life or damage to property, he said. Indian troops also retaliated and targeted forward posts of Pak.
Pak troops had been violating 2003 ceasefire almost daily in Jammu region, targeting civilian areas besides security forces guarding the border. However, this was the first time Pak troops targeted forward positions in north Kashmir during the past few months. Official sources said that Pakistani troops are violating ceasefire to send militants from Pakistan-dministrated- Kashmir (PaK) to this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall. Large number of trained militants are waiting at launch pads on Line of Control(LoC) to sneak into this side. However, security forces are already on high alert to foil any infiltration attempt.
