Aga Ruhullah’s Oct 3 Resignation: Setback for NC or Political Test for the MP?

Srinagar, Oct 2: With October 3 approaching, all eyes are on Srinagar Lok Sabha MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and his announced plan to resign from the Lok Sabha and the primary membership of the National Conference (NC).

Ruhullah’s proposed exit comes amid his public differences with the NC leadership over the party’s position on the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional and political rights.

The proposed resignation has put the NC under political focus, with questions over whether his departure would amount to a setback for the party and what impact it could have on its political standing.

The development has also raised a broader question: would the resignation have a significant impact on the National Conference, or could it also carry political consequences for Ruhullah himself?

October 3 also marks the death anniversary of Ruhullah’s father, the late Aga Syed Mehdi. Ruhullah has announced that he will submit his resignation on the day.

The immediate focus remains on whether Ruhullah follows through on his announcement and how the NC responds to the departure of one of its prominent leaders.
